The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) is a competition for secondary school students. All participant countries send their four top students, who are winners of their respective National Biology Olympiad (NBO). They are competing in two exams, which focus on the skills in dealing with biological problems and experiment. A different IBO member across five continents hosts this event every year.

With the full support of Ministry of Education and Culture, delegation of Indonesia has been actively participating in annual event of the International Biology Olympiad. Every year, Indonesia sends four students, who are the winners of Indonesia National Biology Olympiad. Since the first entering in 2000, Indonesian team has successfully won a number of medals. The most successful of Indonesia’s team in IBO was in 2010, having won 2 gold and 2 bronze. Together with the stunning achievements in modern biology, IBO 2014, Bali, Indonesia is a special year in the history of IBO as it is the 25th anniversary of the competition.
